- The Spirit Wave Orb concentrates the energy of the spirit and the body into the smallest possible space creating a power
that could easily destroy an entire city block. Genaki worked for years to perfect the technique, which she passed on to Yusuke.
Profile: Yuskue Urameshi, The story all begins when Yusuke Urameshi, a crude, rambunctious, selfish, seemingly uncaring
young man with an even less caring mother and a reputation for being a toughest fighter in town (and he is, too) did something
so unexpected that no one, not even the Spirit World [Makai] had been expecting it.
He did something genuinely good...and ended up roadkill for it.
Because of the unusual circumstances, Yusuke is given an opportunity to be revived. He is reluctant at first...but after
he learns just how much me meant to others, he agrees to try. It's a rough, brutal ordeal and in the end relies on both the
goodness hidden deep in his tough exterior and the feelings others felt for him...but he ultimately succeeds and rejoins the
world of the living.
In exchange for his new lease on life, Yusuke is appointed the Living World's [Ningenkai's] Spirit Detective. You see,
being a resurrected human has its side effects. Having been a ghost once, Yusuke has become spiritually sensitive, giving
him the ability to see intruders to the Living World [Ningenkai] otherwise invisible to ordinary humans: ghosts and demons
[youkai] and the like. He also now has a special technique that gives him a much more potent weapon than sheer physical force:
his Spirit Gun [Rei Gun], a concentrated bolt composed of the sum of his spirit energy. Originally, he's limited to using
the technique once a day, but in the course of his cases, he receives special training to further boost his spiritual abilities
and give him advanced techniques like the Shotgun (a multi-shot Spirit Gun burst). Also, he receives various devices from
the Spirit World [Reikai] to assist in his missions (such as a spyglass and a communicator).Yusuke finds out that he is part-demon,
and that he is related to Raizen, one of the three rulers of Demon World. Raizen is a battle demon. In his full demon mode,
Yusuke's hair turns white-white and very long, and he gets demon markings on his face and body. He learns to control it, turning
his hair back to black, which he later cuts. The markings fade until he brings his demon power back, and then they reappear.
There is some controversy over whether Raizen is just Yusuke's ancestor, or if he is actually Yusuke's father. It's said
that Yusuke calls Raizen "father", but what Yusuke really says is "oyaji", which really just means "old
man". And besides, he calls Genkai grandma, but she's not really his grandmother. Plus, they specifically say in the
episode where Raizen decides to stop eating humans, that he slept with a human woman and she had such an impact on him that
he decided he'd rather starve to death than continue to eat humans. Yusuke's father is unknown, but his mother is a decendent
of this woman.
It is also said that Raizen awoke the demon inside Yusuke and gave Yusuke his powers, but according to what I've been
able to find on the web, that is not quite correct either. Yusuke realized his powers on his own when his heart stopped beating
after he was defeated by Sensui. Then Raizen took control of Yusuke's body, which is when his hair turned all white, so perhaps
Yusuke realized his powers, but Raizen helped to unleased them?

Profile: Botan,
A messenger of the Spirit World, Botan serve's as a guide to newly-departed spirit's. She is friendly and often quite
chipper, but when it come's to performing her dutie's she is all business. After Yusuke is assigned the job of Spiritual Detective,
Koenma assign's Botan to be his assistant. Her knowledge and experience often prove invaluable to Yusuke during his many adventuresand.
In any event, Botan helps Yusuke through his ordeal to regain his life. Once Yusuke returns to life and becomes a Spirit Detective,
Botan becomes his assistant. While normally invisible as the Grim Reaper, as Yusuke assistant she becomes as real as you or
me (she just doesn't change her appearance like Koenma), though she soon changes clothes to match the times. In addition to
her insider's insight, she relays news from Koenma and provides various tools for Yusuke and his crew to use, such as the
psychic spyglass (lets Yusuke see through objects) and the communicator. As people join Yusuke's crew, Botan helps them out
as well (Kuwabara also has a crush on her), and she even helps to protect Keiko during the Saint Beast's assault on the Living
World [Ningenkai].

said the pain will make every second seem like its own eternity.

- The powerful Rose Whiplash is an attack using the Rose Whip. Kurama moves the whip so rapidly that most cant see the
many deadly slices it makes as it glides through the air.

- Fifteen years before the Dark Tournament, the spirit fox Yoko Kurama was thought to have been killed while escaping
from a botched burglary. In desperation he hid himself in the world of the living, using a human body to slowly recover his
energy. Kurama reverted to his true form after Ura Urashima unleashed the power of the Idunn Box.

- His most powerful attack, Hiei summons energy from the deepest pits of Spirit World into his arm to create a terrible
dragon that destroys everything in its path. Once unleashed Hiei loses control of the beastwhich sometimes turns on its master.
Fist of the Mortal Flame
- Similar to the Dragon of the Darkness Flame, the Fist of the Mortal Flame uses Mortal Energy instead of Spirit Energy
rendering it much less potent.

can revert the victim to his or her normal self.
Sword of the Darkness Flame
- By harnessing the power of the Darkness Flame into an object outside his body, Hiei is able to create this powerful
weapon, which is much more controllable, yet much less powerful than the Dragon of the same name.
Profile: Hiei is the offspring of a mating between a Koorime (Hina) and an unknown fire demon. Hina is born a Koorime,
a race of self-reproductive ice demons who are all female. She fell in love with a fire demon and bore his son. However, this
kind of action is considered a crime in the Island of the Koorimes, which floats above the Makai. Thus, he was given the title,
"The Forbidden Child", and as an infant was thrown overboard by Rui, Hina's best friend. Before she did, however,
she told the infant that if he must, he should come back and take revenge upon the Koorimes. Hina shed two tears which turned
into gems, one for Hiei and one for his sister, Yukina, who is full fledged Koorime. Then he was thrown off. A band of thieves
picked up Hiei in the forests of the Makai and took him in as one of their own. He learned survival skills, thievery and such.
As he grew more and more powerful, the thieves finally left him, perhaps out of fear, for at the age of five he was an A class
demon. He carries his katana (sword) everywhere as means of weaponry. His only pursuit was strength and his long lost sister,
Yukina. He also looks for his tear gem, which he lost during a fight when the chain was broken, causing it to fall into a
rushing river.
When he learned that Yukina had left the island (which was destructing) to search for him, he went to a demon named Shigure.
He told Shigure his story and asked for a 'jagan,' a third eye to be implanted. Shigure did just that, and Hiei's power sunk,
making him no longer an A class demon. Hiei gained back his power when he learned the jagan's techniques, such as the Kokuryuha
(the Black Dragon Wave) and what we call Majin Hiei, which is his transformation process where his skin turns green and numerous
eyes appear all over his body. Shigure's price was Hiei's tear gem, and after Hiei finds Yukina, he must not tell her that
he is her brother, also. He may have wanted to protect her from the truth of what he really is, anyway.
Hiei returned to the Island of the Koorimes, where he found Rui by Hina's grave. She told him Yukina had left to find
him. She said he could kill her because Hina had committed suicide due to the loss of her son. Hiei didn't do a thing, but
disappeared.
Hiei was not able to find Yukina in the Makai, so he left for the Nigenkai (Human World). There he met a boy named Kurama.
Kurama was walking with a girl named Maya, who confessed to Kurama that she loved him dearly. Hiei attacked Kurama, thinking
he was the demon who stole his tear gem or a spy of a demon Hiei was hunting. Hiei was injured during the fight, and Kurama
took him home and nursed him. Kurama asked for his name, and reluctantly he replied. Then he left to continue on his missions.
A year or two later, they met again when Hiei asked Kurama to steal three Reikai artifacts with another demon named Gouki.
Hiei stole the Shadow Sword, which can turn a person into a mindless demon if cut with it. Hiei tried this with Keiko, someone
Yusuke cares deeply for, in an attempt to get the other two artifacts, the Orb of Baast and the Forlorn Hope. In the handle
of the sword is the antidote to it's power, which cured Keiko. Gouki was killed by Yusuke, while Hiei and Kurama's punishment
was to join Yusuke on his missions. Another human named Kuwabara also joined the team. Hiei had no choice, for if he kills
a human, he will be severely punished or suffer death, as killing humans in forbidden by all means in the Reikai (Spirit World).
One of the biggest Yu Yu Hakusho events is the Ankoku Bujutsukai, a tournament on Hanging Neck Island in Ningenkai, where
the reward is any wish granted. Hiei's team, the Urameshi team, won. Yusuke wished for Genkai to be resurrected (after Toguro
Ototo killed Genkai, he told Koenma to keep her body and resurrect her if Yusuke wins). Soon after, another tournament arose.
This time, it was with the three overlords of the Makai, the three most powerful demons. Their names were Yomi, Raizen, and
Mukuro. It turns out Raizen was Yusuke's ancestor, and for survival he needs to feed on humans. Raizen refuses to do it, and
soon after his death Yusuke took his place. Kurama joined Yomi, and Hiei became the heir of Mukuro. Before he left the Nigenkai,
he was given a tear gem from Yukina. She indirectly called him "brother," and explained that it was because he would
probably be what her brother would be like. He strings the gem into a pendant and left for the Makai.There he met Shigure
who challenged him to battle, pitted by Mukuro. The masked Mukuro said that he will reveal his true identity to whoever wins.
Shigure said that if Hiei wins, he could tell Yukina who he is. Shigure killed Hiei, but not before Hiei sliced through Shigure's
forehead. Hiei had no problem with death, as he already had achieved all he wanted in life. Mukuro wanted to keep Hiei around,
so she revived him in a machine. She showed him her identity: a female whose body is half gone and replaced by metal and machinery.
Hiei stayed around with Mukuro and whatever happened afterwards is a mystery. Hiei's story is perhaps the saddest one in Yu
Yu Hakusho, where his life and soul was constantly challenged by betrayal, angst, and his disturbing past.
